rrreefs is looking for an outstanding Coral Reef Scientist and Field Coordinator, responsible for pushing forward scientific knowledge generation on our reefs around the world.

rrreefs is a young startup based in Zurich that rebuilds degraded coral reefs with 3D printed structures made from terracotta clay. We empower B2B customers to become engaged in biodiversity conservation by investing in reef restoration. Our vision is to restore 1% of coastal coral reefs in the next ten years – that’s 710 km. We dare to disrupt. We challenge the status quo. We are a community of ocean enthusiasts passionate about safeguarding the life on our planet.

rrreefs’ Coral Reef Scientist and Field Coordinator is responsible for planning, analysis, and management of all scientific data generated on our rebuilt reefs around the world. This role requires expert knowledge and familiarity with scientific best practices and methodologies (PhD or equivalent experience). Our work has a strong field component, so a part of this crucial role will involve planning and coordination of our field activities in new and existing project sites, calling for field work experience and a motivation to travel. An understanding and passion for the environment and ocean is a must have.

1) Challenge us. We are still a small team with big tasks and even bigger dreams, so we need all your crazy ideas. You are the expert, we are your sparring partners.

2) Grow into designing and leading our reef monitoring, as well as new experiments and data analysis plans that will further enhance the functionality of our reef system for the ocean.

3) Bring your flexibility, your communication and spontaneous problem solving skills into the game when leading local field teams.

4) Stay up to date with developments in the hot discussions around biodiversity credits, proposed metrics, and their applicability to our reef projects.

– Proficiency in English: strong listening, writing, and speaking skills

– Experienced SCUBA diver, preferably scientific diver certificate

– Experience leading a team and planning fieldwork activities

– Able and willing to travel and spend few months per year in the field

– Skilled problem-solver, self-reliant, results-oriented, and able to work both independently and with a team

– The global nature of our work requires great communication skills, embracing collaborative opportunities, being able to understand and value cultural differences and adapt accordingly

– Some experience in pursuing external R&D funding and budget planning preferred

– We are committed to creating a work environment that is fair and inclusive, where all decisions related to recruitment, advancement, and retention are free of discrimination.

– Decide how, when and from where you want to work with our flexible working hours and remote friendly options
